Why now is the perfect time to chase your dreams

What’s the last thing you saw on the news? Chances are it had something to do with the “tipsy turvey” UK economy. Millions of people are either unemployed or underemployed; working part time because full time jobs are hard to come by. Add that to the increase of in work poverty and the picture looks bleak.

As Politicians and economists are busy devising new means of postponing the inevitable fall of a system that has served the few at the expense of the masses  and average citizens fume and protest, it seems as though we’re all missing the possible silver lining. This “crisis” provides the perfect impetus for us to overcome our fears and pursue our dreams.

Throughout our formative years, the vast majority of us were trained to settle for less in life. While the rich and powerful sent their children to specials schools where they would learn to become the rich and powerful of tomorrow we were told to study hard so we could get “good” jobs.

Would you trade your dreams for a secure 9 to 5?

We were to believe that this was success, a nice pay check from someone who undoubtedly wrote himself (or herself) a far bigger one. In exchange we were to hand over our best years, our energy and our ideas.  Our dreams and aspirations were to remain forever locked in our heads, unfulfilled. This was reality.

However, the economic “crisis” has swept the rug right from underneath us. The whole “go to school, get a good job” concept doesn’t work anymore. We’re reaching a point whereby we can’t depend on employers to earn a living. That’s not to say that no one will ever be employed again but there simply aren’t enough “good” jobs for all of us.

So many people, not enough Jobs

As University students across the UK are discovering even a good degree doesn’t guarantee you a job nowadays. Now we could ignore this truth and continue on as usual but what if we embraced this change?

What if we actively started pursuing our dreams and business ideas? Many a person has decided against this in fear of failure and financial ruin in favour of the security of a good ol’ 9 to 5 but what is there to fear now?  Everyone is struggling to make ends meet; even those working “good jobs” have to deal with high tax rates.

Why not step out of the overcrowded employment boat onto the “ocean of dreams”? Even if you sink and need to get back on, your experience would make you more valuable to the captain (from the special school) than one of those who have never set foot off the deck.

This is the perfect time for us to pursue our dreams; we have everything to gain and almost nothing to lose.
